First contribution of New Caledonia in the Australian Parliament

For the first time, New Caledonia will speak at the Parliament of Canberra on Friday September 4th, to emphasise its geographical proximity and its economic advantages.

As part of an investigation into the nature of Australia's trade and investment relations with its neighbours, the Permanent Joint Parliamentary Committee of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Trade, which brings together MPs and Senators, will collect the testimony of diplomatic representatives of seven Pacific island countries. New Caledonia will be represented there by its delegate based at the French Embassy in Canberra, Yves Lafoy.

Australia’s goal is to strengthen ties with the region by trying to alleviate obstacles and barriers that can affect the quality of its relations and trade.

The contribution of the New Caledonian delegation in the Australian Parliament follows the diplomatic mission to Australia in early March, led by Christopher Gygès, member of the government in charge of the economy and foreign trade.

This is an opportunity to highlight the recent creation of Choose New Caledonia, a one-stop-shop, intended to attract foreign investors, especially Australians.
