The Vanuatu Prime Minister has announced a ‘Tamtam Bubble’ which will be created with New Caledonia, to provide one way quarantine-free travel.
The Vanuatu Tamtam Travel Bubble Taskforce was established in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the closure of international borders. From April 2021, residents of New Caledonia will be able to travel to the island of Efate in Vanuatu.
New Caledonia is currently studying the feasibility of travel bubbles between New Caledonia and Vanuatu, as well as New Caledonia and Fiji. New Caledonia has requested support from the Pacific Community (SPC) to assist with the project.
Both Vanuatu and New Caledonia have managed to contain the spread of COVID-19, with 1 case and 55 cases respectively.
